21 Mar 2010 – The Indian Express, with a readership of more than 361,000 readers daily, does a meticulous job of choosing only the most vile opinions that people have about gurus in India, and strategically published it a mere week after the planned attack on His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda. Even worse, the article has opinions from Hindus, who have posted the same opinion in many different ways – worship god, do not follow godmen. This is the most apt example of what cultural genocide looks like. Slowly and strategically, many practices of our culture have been destroyed and denigrated beyond repair – our glorious sanyas sampradaya, dressing as per our traditional attire, local and indigenous arts and crafts – the list is endless.
Cultural genocide in the modern day has been happening with media as it’s strongest weapon. The saddest part of this is that Hindus themselves no longer behave or think like Hindus, nor respect Hinduism. This article portrays the last point most aptly.
