The current ruling Gurumahasannidhanam declares in a public press meet that His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda is to be the next pontiff of Madurai Aadheenam. He said:
“I have selected the person who is enlightened and all knowing, who lives the Saiva Siddhantham, and who is glorified and worshipped by many. We can’t find anyone else like him in the whole of India. Anybody can oppose this, but can anyone give me one other person like him? So, if I take any decision, they should accept and recognize it as my divine right. If they say that, this person is feeling bad, that person is get hurt, what is the use? Did they give anyone to me to manage my entire property? Swami Nithyananda has branches in 151 countries, and he has spent crores to build temples. Everybody is saying only sex complaint on Him. If that is the case, everyone has to be in the jail. See, this is decision I have taken by the order of lord Shiva and Parvathi. So I don’t have to discuss on it.
“When one Aadheenam is choosing their ‘ilavarasu’ (the next pontiff), they don’t need to discuss with other mutts, and other mutts should not ask about it. That is their independent decision. For example, Tiruvaduthurai Aadheenam or Dharumapura Aadheenam declares their next pontiff, no one will ask. That is their independent decision. So, I also did not go and ask anyone. I am declaring that Swami Nithyananda as next pontiff. That is all. This Madurai Aadheenam has to flourish more all around the world, Swami Nithyananda will do that.”
