6 Jan 2012, Chennai: The Madras High Court today rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Lenin Karuppan and his brother Kumar in connection with the complaint lodged by Sri Nithya Atma Prabhananda with charges of extortion, criminal intimidation amongst other charges related to the creation and distribution of the morphed video in order to defame His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda. Hon’ble Justice Palanivelu said there were prima facie materials available against Lenin and his brother Kumar and that granting bail to them at this stage would hamper further investigation. Also on grounds there was every likelihood of them tampering with witnesses, the Hon’ble Judge dismissed the anticipatory bail applications. Lenin and his brother Kumar were earlier denied anticipatory bail at the Sessions Court in Chennai which prompted them to appeal before the High Court. The list of accused in the complaint of Sri Nithya Atmaprabhananda are Sun network COO Saxena, his assistant Iyyappan, Nakkheeran Gopal and Kamraj, Lenin Karuppan, his brother Kumar and his co-conspirators Aarthi Rao, Prasanna Kumar and lawyer Sridhar. The crime branch-CID of the Tamil Nadu police is currently investigating the matter. Lenin and his brother Kumar are reportedly in hiding for the past few months.
