In a desperate and unusual move to justify their case against His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda, his arrest and incarceration; police solicited people to testify against him, offering to pay all of their expenses including travel costs. They used printed news, social media, and mass media for this ‘advertisement for victims’.

In His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda’s case the usual course of events was reversed. Paramahamsa Nithyananda was accused of a crime by the media, even though no victims existed. The Police then searched for an evidence to bolster the fictitious crime. Baseless accusations against Paramahamsa Nithyananda filled the air waves, internet and newsprint in an effort to make people believe what was being falsely projected. Paramahamsa Nithyananda was charged, arrested and incarcerated for 52 days on the basis of a fictionalized news story, with no proof.
“The CID Superintendent of Police Yogappa, in a release here, said all those affected and the victims of Nityananda were free to contact him and depose. He said the travel expenses of those willing to depose before him and provide information would be met by the department and their identities kept in utmost secrecy.”
Furthermore he states that “Despite our best efforts, not a single “victim” has come to us. We got some emails from persons living abroad but they have not provided any evidence.”
Such misuse of law is not possible in any other democratic country. The police before even the trial of the accused occurs, collaborate with national media seeking victims to build a case.
